Lloyd Harden Design & Swift Partnership Release Series of Stunning Garden Annexes

Lloyd Harden Design, an Architectural Design Consultancy based in Market Harborough, have teamed up with garden annexe specialists, Swift.


The brief was to produce five concept designs of garden living structures which are both unique and breath-taking.


Our talented design team set about researching designs that already exist in order to create some unique structures.


Here are the stunning garden annexes that we came up with:


1. CONCEPT A - 28 sq m

For Annexe living with style and a great feeling of space – even though the footprint is compact enough for most locations.


The light and airy atmosphere is created through the pitched roof design that gives exceptional volume to the accommodation – enhanced and adorned by the wrap-over glazing that extends from the floor up into the roof space.


Garden annexe key features:

  • Compact footprint of 7m x 4m plus integrated outside sitting. / entertaining area

  • 4m x 3m covered and sheltered outside zone

  • Up and Over window and skylight combination

  • Well-equipped kitchenette

  • Studio-style open plan living and sleeping accommodation with additional study zone

  • Fitted en-suite with large shower or bath, plus dressing area and robes

  • Modern and efficient heating and hot water system

  • Double glazed and fully finished interior

  • Exterior “hit and miss’ cladding giving a modern, natural ambience

  • Choice of roof finishes


2. CONCEPT B - 28 sq m


A living annexe that cuts a distinctive and contemporary edge with a dramatic roofline plus a sidemounted Brise Soleil to incorporate the indoor / outdoor living space.

Garden annexe key features:

  • Compact footprint of 7m x 4m plus side patio

  • Brise Soleil on the side – positioned to your choice

  • Extended roofline to both ends

  • Full height windows in living area

  • Well-equipped kitchenette

  • Studio-style open plan living and sleeping accommodation with additional study zone

  • Fitted en-suite with large shower or bath, plus dressing area and robes

  • Modern and efficient heating and hot water system

  • Double glazed and fully finished interior

  • Exterior “hit and miss” cladding giving a modern, natural ambience

  • Choice of roof finishes


3. CONCEPT C - 40 sq m


Luxury living for one or two people, with impressively expansive areas of glass to make the connection between the inside and outside. This building has visual flair from the inside as well as the outside and will be a delight to live in.

Garden annexe key features:

  • A spacious one-bedroom layout which has a footprint of 8m x 5m

  • Dual rooflines which are accentuated by contrasting cladding materials giving a sharp and individual appearance

  • Three corners display wrap-around glazing, producing a light and modern atmosphere.

  • Lounge with central full-height media unit and rooflight.

  • Well-equipped L-shaped kitchen

  • Large bedroom with generous en-suite shower room plus built-in wardrobe.

  • Modern and efficient heating and hot water system

  • Choice of finishes


CONCEPT D - 72 sq m


Annex Living does not always need to restrict the spaciousness and Luxury living for its occupants. If you are fortunate to have the garden space, then this beautiful home offers imaginative exterior styling combined with innovative and contemporary accommodation.

Garden annexe key features:

  • A spacious one-bedroom layout which has a footprint of 12m x 6m

  • Additional height zones that boost the voluminous atmosphere in the living and sleeping rooms

  • A wall full of glass in the living / dining area together with rooflight.

  • Study or occasional second bedroom

  • Well-equipped luxury kitchen with island cooking area and eating / entertaining area

  • Large bedroom with generous en-suite shower room plus walk-in dressing area

  • Modern and efficient heating and hot water system

  • Choice of finishes


CONCEPT E - 110 sq m


The ultimate in contemporary annexe accommodation – designed to create a home that exudes style, size and luxury. For those with the available space, this is a remarkable design which would feel at home on the pages of any Country magazine.


Garden annexe key features:

  • Magnificent height and volume provided by the design which could even include a roof garden (with planning consent)

  • A spacious two-bedroom layout which has a footprint of 13m x 8.5m

  • Extensive covered outdoor space with open connection to living accommodation via sliding curtain glass walls.

  • Impressive master suite with large bedroom and en-suite facilities

  • Flexible second bedroom and / or study

  • Second bathroom / WC

  • Well-equipped luxury kitchen with island cooking area and breakfast bar area

  • Modern and efficient heating and hot water system
