The team at Lloyd Harden Design have been working on this absolutely stunning house extension on this beautiful thatched cottage in Northamptonshire.
The original house had a dated conservatory at the back, that needed bringing up to date, along with a more modern internal layout. The client's brief was to create a large open plan family area at the back of the house comprising of a new large kitchen, informal dining area and seating area.
On the first floor the client wanted to increase the size of the master bedroom and add an ensuite, Further to this we added a balcony to take full advantage of the 360º views.
Another task for us to consider was how we were going to get light into this vast space. We achieved this by the use of a large lantern along with large glazing areas and bi-fold doors.
We wanted to create a real contrast in the design of this extension but also to maintain the original traditional feel of the cottage. We kept the building traditional but brought the feel of the structure up to date by adding in modern touches such as the roof lantern and modern windows.
